You're Invited to Emily's 6th Birthday!

Thank you so much for coming to celebrate Emily's birthday!  I still can't believe she's six now...

What?!  I know... Alex and Grandma are in shock too!  When did she become such a young little lady? {Ha!  The only way I can get a picture of Alex is to catch him off guard!}

We are so fortunate to have our families celebrate these memorable birthdays with us every year...especially since they seem to be happening sooner and faster as each year passes...and maybe becoming fewer and farther between as they are getting older and as all the schedules keep getting busier and busier!  I realized today how much all the kids have changed and grown {although Alex's attitude seemed to have reverted back to when he was 2 at times ...ahem...}

We had fun celebrating all week...and she's already trying to speed up time by telling me "I can't wait until I'm seven!"  ...sigh...

I hope we can all get together soon for the next birthday...Alex will be eight...{good grief}

"You're Gonna Miss This...Moment" Just Another Day

Time to join Pam and share the moments we're going to miss one day...because life is so short! Sometimes it's hard to find those moments among our busy schedules, but that's what I love about participating in this...it makes me stop and think about it and appreciate them so much more!

Thanks so much for all the Birthday wishes for Emily!  I just love celebrating the kids' birthdays...because when we get older...it's just another day.  I love the energy they have nearly a month in advance about their upcoming birthdays and planning the decorations and what kind of cake they want...and all those really stressful fun details! 

Emily had lots of fun taking pink and blue sprinkled icing cookies into school to celebrate her birthday, hearing her name over the announcements and getting her special pencil yesterday!  We went for lunch at Steak n Shake, went to Walgreens to spend her $10 from Great-Grandma Martha {Thank you so much!} on magic 3D bubbles and a pink & purple glitter baton, baked her cake {white cake with chocolate frosting, sprinkles and a cat...her choice!}...

...took a small nap {me...not her!}, went to ballet, Menards {for a lightbulb that Walgreens didn't have} and picked up our birthday pizza for dinner!

She barely ate her pizza...quickly blew out her candles {without making a wish...she didn't have time for that!}...and got busy ripping paper...

I cherish these birthdays and the traditions each year because pretty soon it's going to be just another day to them too...and I will miss when they help make the cake, put up the decorations, ask for Littlest Pet Shop and Barbies and get together for family parties...and when they just want to hang out with friends instead, ask for money and don't want all the fun decorations and balloons anymore.   But that doesn't ever happen, does it? 

...sigh...

So for now...I will go maybe a little over-the-top with the gifts and start decorating the house and celebrating a month in advance while I can...although I'm a little ready to take that birthday banner down now!

Six

Emily is officially a six-year old today! 

It's definitely a bittersweet day...she can no longer show people how old she is with just one hand anymore...she's a big-time school girl...who still loves her blankie...and crawls into our bed in the middle of the night to snuggle...she has a big heart...her attitude and confidence are gigantic...but she's barely over three feet tall...she wants to do everything herself...but still needs mommy to lay with her at night before she will go to sleep.  She has her own sense of style and will rarely wear something that I pick out for her...but she still loves wearing her birthday dress each year...{with a few extra stains!}

I hope you can wear this dress for a long time to come!  Although...you won't really need it after today...because I already told you that this was absolutely your last birthday, and you are six from now on, missy!  Oh, shoot...I guess that won't work...then you wouldn't get to be excited for a whole week waiting for this special day...like Christmas morning, opening your first gift of the day...

Happy Birthday Emily! I know I keep telling you to stop growing up and to slow down...and you just won't listen... But I want to wish you the best sixth birthday ever!

{We don't have a big bash planned this year with all her friends quite like last year...but hopefully we'll get a chance to do something fun over Spring Break. And, of course, we always look forward to the family party on the weekend...and our traditional pizza and cake for dinner and opening presents tonight for her birthday!}

And speaking of six...

Alex lost his sixth tooth just in time for Emily's sixth birthday!  He's so sweet like that! {ha!}  He held on to that tooth until it just literally fell over in his mouth after he brushed his teeth last night!  Way to go Alex!  I'm in love with that winning smile!

{Emily's class had lots of fun making hats and reading books in celebration of Dr. Seuss' Birthday...and tomorrow will be her 6th birthday!}
