{Cabin} Fever

Summer is in full swing here...the kids have been out of school for about a week now...and they've been staying up late, swimming, catching fireflies, and getting sweaty and dirty every night!  Yay Summer!

We helped kick off summer by staying the night in a little cabin in Brown County over the weekend.

It was definitely a small cabin...but it did have two small rooms with two small beds and two small bathrooms...very rustic, but with a small fridge and microwave...perfect for popcorn and sodas! 

After we ate dinner and settled in...the kids were eager to get to the water park!

...and Ellie wishes she was big enough to join them...but maybe next year...

The water was a little cold for me {how do the kids not notice that?!} and I was just fine hanging out with Ellie in the 0ft portion of the pool!

We headed back to the cabin before sunset to make s'mores...minus the fire due to the heat...{but who can still resist chocolate and marshmallows together?!} and popcorn.

We had a little bit of a rough night sleep...only thanks to the loud air conditioner kicking on and off all night...and the time that I finally drifted off to sleep only to be jolted awake by someone trying to get into our cabin around 11:30!  I heard the doorknob jiggling...and told Dan, "Someone's trying to get in!"  Turns out they were told the wrong cabin when checking in...thanks a lot for scaring me half to death...and ruining the rest of my night...how could I relax after that?!

In the morning, Dan woke up early to get us some breakfast {there is a McDonald's nearby...sorry, we're not true campers!} and the kids and I thought we'd just sit out on the porch for a little bit...turns out Emily accidently locked us out...so we enjoyed the sunrise and thankfully I just happened to have my iPhone with me...ahem...so I could still snap a few pictures!

Because it was such a hot hot day...we didn't do much hiking like we wanted to...just a little trek up to the lookout tower and a stop at the stables to see the horses and take a couple laps around with the ponies...

Emily really wanted to ride the big horses...but I'm not as eager as her!

Elizabeth...on the other hand...wasn't as eager to get too close to them either...

...she was fine admiring them on the other side of the fence...but once she was on the same side...she was not that excited!

Alex wasn't that excited about riding a pony this time either...but Emily chose to take Honey for a ride!

It was fun to get away for a night and we always love coming to Brown County and make some new memories each time!
