I ♥ Faces - Week 30 - {Purple}

This week's challenge is purple!  Emily's favorite color...besides pink!  I had a great vision in my head of how I wanted to enter this challenge...but I never made it happen...nor do I think Emily was up for a photo shoot in this heat!

But I did go back and find this photo of her wearing her purple puffy jacket...

...brrrr!  I'm not quite ready for Winter just yet...but that looks a little refreshing after the sweltering temps we've had lately!

miscellany monday

{It's time once again to join carissa at lowercase letters in miscellany monday and share all your random randomness for the week!}

1.  {glad that's all cleared up}
it's been so hot this week...the heat index was near 105 degrees!  thankfully our pool has finally cleared up...and cooled off...so we don't melt!  {the water has turned cloudy and green twice this summer...and we've recently had to drain most of the pool and refill it...plus add tons of chlorine!}

I'm so thankful for the pool...there is just no way you can be outside in this heat unless you're in water!  We have a few plans to stay indoors a little this week with maybe some roller-skating, tumbling at the gymnastics center, or maybe more bowling. 

2.  {there's no place like home...}

...according to Dorothy!  We've had a few twisters in the area this week...the closest only about 5 to 10 miles north of us!  The weather has not only been scorching hot...but we've been on the edge of some severe thunderstorms and tornadoes!  It's been raining one minute, then sunny, then raining...but always hot!

But even with this crazy weather...God reminds us it's always okay...and to find His beauty...

...everytime!

3.  {if you can't take the heat...}

...get out of the kitchen...and go to the closet!  We've been trying to tackle so many things in our home right now...the firepit...the basement...the office-to-be-baby's room...and our master closet.  We've neglected it for so many years...but finally are getting it organized and hope to move our laundry room upstairs!  We bagged up so many old clothes and shoes, carted them off to Goodwill and made lots of space for new shelving and storage and I can't wait to buy a new big washer and dryer that can do everything for me...except folding the clothes and putting them away...shoot! 

But it will be nice to not have to carry loads of laundry downstairs and through the tiny laundry room we have now.  Somehow our clothes always seem to get lost between there and the upstairs...hopefully having everything in one place will help!

...I even plan on painting the kids' bathroom next...I'm on a roll!  {...to be continued...}

4.  {happy feet}

Emily and I finally gave ourselves much needed pedicures...

{I may just need a little touch-up...bless her heart!}

...and she even massaged my feet for me!  My feet are so happy!

5.  {21 days}

The countdown has started...only 3 more weeks until the first day of school!  Alex and Emily love school...but are not super excited about it...we've had a great summer...we're not ready to see it end!

We're going to try and fit as much more of this in as possible before it's homework, activities and earlier bedtimes...

6.  {cravings}

I haven't been craving anything too unusual...just alot more!  ugh!  I had to have onion rings the other day...so I did...and they were so fried, greasy and delicious!  Then I saw a foot-long coney dog on tv last night that made my mouth water...anything that is bad for me...looks so good! Good grief...I'm certain to be as big as our house if I keep this up!  I'm a little nervous to be weighed this week at my appointment...sigh...

...but...the best part is that I'm feeling a lot more movement...and Alex and Emily have been able to feel the little nudges too!  It's an amazing time...and I don't mind that I have to gain some extra baby weight...or chili-cheese dog lbs...however you want to look at it...it's a minor sacrifice!

{Lucky} Strike

This is one {lucky} girl...

We woke up bright and early late and lazy again today with just a few plans to get out of the house...but Emily's friend called this morning and invited her to go to the Children's Museum with her...

...and to sleep over again!

Yes...she insisted on wearing the same dress as last time...but Lanie got to go this time!  Emily's hair looked about the same as Lanie's seconds before we headed out the door!  She was one excited girl!  Her friend's mom told me that she overheard her saying that they had the best sleepover ever!  I'm so thankful that Emily has such a great friend and that she has such a wonderful mom...I have yet to let Emily have a sleepover at our house...she's already been planning it...I just need to find a place for Alex to stay...because the girls love to chase him!  It could be a wild house! 

So that left me with a date with this handsome fellow...

He was also more than excited to have another day to soak up all the attention and have his choice of what to do... first, lunch at Chili's, of course ... then bowling!  {He even wore his bowling shirt!  ha!}

I can promise you though...there were definitely no strikes!  It looked a little more like this...

...those are some sad stats!

But I haven't bowled in years...so I blamed my balance and skill on the extra bowling ball I was carrying around...ahem...

But we had a great time!  I love when I get the chance to spend some extra one-on-one time with Alex and Emily!

{btw...we forgot our socks...so if you're gagging like I was when we had to wear the shoes...I'm sorry...but we came home and stuck our feet in the heavily-chlorinated pool for awhile!  ha!  It was worth it...I think...}

After bowling {we also scrubbed our hands before we left...ew!  I love bowling...but it does leave you feeling a bit germy!} we went to Culver's for drinks and ice-cream!

Next time he told me we're going roller-skating!  I said I'd be happy to watch...I haven't made good on my word on roller-skating with him, yet...but I think I have a valid excuse this time!

I ♥ Faces - Week 29 - {Over My Head}

It's been awhile since I've entered iheartfaces...and I really miss it!  This week it's all up in the air...or at least over  your head! 

I thought I'd enter this picture of Alex with his birthday balloons from last week.  When we went to pick up his balloons, we laughed at how big the 8 was...it could've carried him away!

It's been over a week...and this balloon is still stuck to our family room ceiling...maybe it will come down before his 9th birthday!

miscellany monday

1.  {bathroom blues...or greens}

We are pretty much a house of beige when it comes to paint color...but I was completely spontaneous last Thursday after Alex's allergy appointment.  First of all, I'm not very spontaneous...second of all, I hate to paint, but I decided to head to Lowe's and just browse paint colors...ended up buying a color {Glass Tile} and went home and got started!

I think it turned out okay...I'm terrible at picking out paint colors...but it does look better than the dirty, dingy beige that was there before!  And although it's the smallest room in the house...it took me forever and my body paid for it with all the bending over {behind the toilet...yuck!} and reaching up high!  It's a bluish/green, robin egg color...not exactly what I was going for...but I don't hate it because it does remind me of the beach and that's what I love!

2.  {20 weeks...and about 20 cupcakes}

I am now 20 weeks along...and have consumed about 20 cupcakes since Alex's birthday...ugh!  I'm feeling pretty good...but get heartburn alot more and feel like I'm carrying around a bowling ball!

{Alex also informed me how much he is growing and he is now up to my boob...lovely!  Ha!  But he's right...more like my armpit...sigh...and pretty soon it will be my shoulder...}

Why do they grow up so darn fast?

I hopefully get to find out if we'll be painting the nursery pink or blue next week...or maybe a light green just to be safe!

3.  {a piercing situation}

Emily is still constantly telling us how much she wants to get her ears pierced...so we came up with a solution...

We've encouraged her terrible habit over the years of sleeping in our bed, and she has always gotten up in the middle of the night to come to our bed, and we just allowed it...because she won't be little forever...right?  Well...with a new baby coming and mommy needing to get better sleep without little elbows and knees in my back...we've decided that if she can stay in her bed all night by herself for two weeks...her reward will be to get her ears pierced!

The very first night...she came right to our bed...and we let it go...not a great start.  So she did not get to put a sticker on the calendar.  The next two nights were rough too.  I heard her door open around 12:30 am and she stood in the hallway and called my name...so I layed with her in her bed for a few minutes, then she got up two more times, but back to bed she went crying.  The next night she just stayed in her bed and cried, so I layed with her again.  I gave her the stickers for those nights still...because she's trying and it's got to get better, right?  {anybody else know what I'm talking about?}  I told her me coming to her bed can't happen either...everyone needs to stay in their own beds!  And we will add on another week if this keeps up.  I know she can do it...bad habits are hard to break...but I'm just as determined and excited for her to have pierced ears too!

4.  {midnight snack}

Pickles and vanilla wafers make a great midnight snack while watching Jay Leno...and telling Emily to please go back to bed again ...sigh... {these could be a long two weeks...it's hard on me too...that's why it's gone on for so long...her tears are going to break me...I might need some more pickles!}

5.  {it's like butta'}

Speaking of snacks...Emily asked me yesterday if she could eat a stick of butter!  Ew!  She loves butter...but I have to draw the line at that!  Ha!
