Let it Snow!

It seems as though we don't get very many white Christmases anymore...or even a white Winter...but we were lucky enough to wake up on the last morning of school before the holiday break with a Snow Day!  The kids were so excited!  Not only were they ready to get outside and play...but Alex had been asking all week before if he could build a fort in our family room...and this was his day!
So pretty waking up to see the snow-covered lights!
Ellie was ready to go outside...but it was cold!
Before the sun was up...Alex was already busy building his fort!

After Alex and Emily took great care and planning with the fort building...they furnished the inside with their blankets, sleeping bags, pillows and other favorite things...and they all headed outside to have some fun in the snow!
This was Ellie's first time really enjoying the snow...and she loved every bit of it!
Getting ready to try out the sled...
...there was just enough snow to slide down the hill...but getting a running start made it even more fun!
Emily helping Ellie onto the sled...
"Ready..."
"Whoa!"
So fun!
14-year-old spunky Skipper was loving the snow day too!
He ran several laps around and around the house at top speed!  Go Skipper!
Wipeout!
Everything looks so peaceful, pretty and crisp under newly fallen snow!
Sledding down the backyard hill
Going back up for another turn down!
Sweet snow sisters!
Alex having fun on the playset!
Building up piles of snow at the bottom of the slide!
"Hi, Mommy!"

It was a fun, unexpected day home from school...and a great surprise to start our holiday break early!
After playing outside, the kids came inside and had lunch and hot chocolate in the fort and watched tv!  It was nice to have a day for fun and some relaxation before Christmas...

...but we also had a lot of things to do to get ready for our trip to Colorado!
Uncovering Ellie, Snowball and a few other friends from the fort!
We are ready to pack...and head to the Rockies!
We love Snow Days...and I'm so glad the kids could take a day to enjoy it before out trip!  Especially since we missed the big blizzard of the year the day after Christmas!

  1. Even though we had 'plenty' of snow on our Utah/CO trip we still are a bit sad we missed the blizzard (ha!) here in Indy. Hope we get another one this year!!
I didn't realize Skipper was 14. Good dog to stay in your yard except for when the UPS man comes. I wish Hersh was just as good... in time. ;)

Such a fun snow day you all had. Sweet pictures. Alex's face as he's going down the hill on his belly!! I especially love that Ellie loved it and what a sweet big sis Emily is.

  2. You guys have such cool fun! My kids were over the moon about the snow too...me, not so much. Hopefully for all of the kiddoes we'll get more snow before the season is over.

  3. All that snow is so pretty! It looks like everybody had a blast playing in it too! We were hoping for a few flurries this morning, but it didn't get quite cold enough!
