...sort of...
Alex is starting off the new year with a new tennis raquet so he can be ready to perfect his {swing}! He just needs to remember to remind the coach that he is a lefty! It's so confusing...he practices tennis and golf left-handed...and basketball and baseball right-handed! {And Alex also needs to be reminded that the goal of tennis is not to swing the raquet to hit the ball as hard as you can against the back wall...sigh...save that for baseball!}
Getting back on track is always hard after a long holiday break...and having four immediate snow days and yet another holiday on Monday for Martin Luther King Jr...makes it even harder to get back in the {swing} of a routine. I forgot to turn in Emily's homework packet this week...then when we did and she got it back...she missed a whole back page! oops! I even checked it for her! Then I used the wrong card to pay off a remaining balance...and gave Dan the number to the right card so he could fix it...except it was the number of our debit card instead...yikes! But Elizabeth has agreed to take full responsibilty for my mishaps...because she really begs me to stay up at night with her and then urges me to oversleep in the mornings and cause my mind to be all foggy when I need to be on top of things! I forgive her, though! She's promising me that maybe we can grab a nap somewhere during the day to make up for it!
Alex and Emily have been more than helpful too...without me asking! Emily has cleaned the mirrors around the house, dusted, and helped me fold laundry and put it away. Alex has made sure the pets are fed and kept his room neat...and thanks to his own alarm clock/ipod...there may have been more than one morning that we would've overslept! And they eagerly grabbed a shovel once they saw that Dan was outside clearing the snow off from around the pool...
{although I think it quickly turned into play time!}
It's hard to believe that it's mid-January already...and it's been hard to get back in the {swing} of things...but I'm trying to enjoy it all and cherish each second more than the last!
Especially when I realize that Alex is quickly nearing his ninth birthday!
Yesterday he celebrated his half birthday at school, since his actual birthday is during Summer break...and he was so excited to be 8 1/2 and take in his treats, hear his name over the announcements and bring home his crown which his friends signed.
...sigh...yes, I will definitely need to try and hold onto each and every second...before they {swing} out of my reach...

You'll get into a routine in no time! It has been hard for us too ever since Thanksgiving...sigh. Slowly we're getting it together. I love how Alex celebrated his 1/2 birthday...I think that's a neat idea. I can't believe my Caleb is going to be 4...sniff.
ReplyDeleteIt seems that routines are made to be disrupted, doesn't it? But what sweeter way to interrupt things than with sweet little Elizabeth? :) The holidays always throw a kink in things, too. Perri is currently without ANY sport in which to participate and she is SO not used to that! We got her a membership at a local fitness center and that is helping somewhat. She misses gymnastics terribly. :( Hopefully when this snow melts off and it's time to get back into the routine of softball and baseball practices, we'll be very well rested and ready to run with it! :)
ReplyDeleteCute little helpers....I love it when my kids try to "help"
ReplyDeletesounds like things are going as well as can be expected! Great helpers you got there!
ReplyDeleteThat is a great idea for the 1/2 birthday at school. i always hated having a summer birthday for that reason. You have some great shovelers. Too cute out there helping daddy.
